Posture Correction for Osteoporosis: Using a Yoga Strap for Rounded Shoulders
Written by: Bone Coach
When you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, you want to avoid rounding your spine, and this includes rounding your shoulders.
A great way to learn to do this is by using a yoga strap. You will want to use a 10’ yoga strap.
Wrap it around your back at bra strap or chest level. The straps will come to the front.
Drape each strap over the shoulder and behind you.
Then cross the straps in the back and pull them snug so you feel your shoulders open up.
Bring the straps around to the front and tie them.
Now you should feel the shoulders open up and the collarbones widen. You can wear this for short periods anytime, and it would be great to do while sitting at a computer. It is not meant to replace your muscles, but rather to give you feedback and a reminder to open the shoulders.
Incorporating simple tools like a yoga strap into your daily routine can make a significant difference in managing osteoporosis or osteopenia. By gently guiding your posture and encouraging proper shoulder alignment, you’re taking proactive steps towards better bone health.
Remember, it's not just about preventing harm but also about nurturing a stronger, more resilient body. Give it a try during your next work session or even while relaxing at home—your shoulders and spine will thank you.
